Roofers install, repair and replace waterproof flat and sloped roofs involving different application methods on a variety of materials such as wood, steel or concrete.

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Having some knowledge of the various types of roofing systems is helpful

  • Strength, agility and willingness to work in extreme weather conditions

Entrance Requirements

  • Grade 10 minimum

Apprenticeship Program

Approximately 5-6 years, total of 9,400 hours along with on-the-job training. Red Seal license is awarded after completing hours and passing the certificate of qualification exam. As an apprentice, you can earn while you learn.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and replace flat and sloped roof systems

  • Work with waterproof and damp-proof roof systems

  • Use tar pots, rubber membrane and propane torches to apply/install different types of roofing materials

Journeyperson Wage Rate:

$24.34-$53.32/hr
