Floor covering installers install carpet, wood, linoleum, vinyl and other resilient floor coverings in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.

Ability to visualize spaces to estimate materials

Entrance Requirements
Minimum grade 10 education in Canada (or a proven Canadian equivalency)
Strong math and communication skills are essential
Apprenticeship Program
Learning and earning is a key advantage of the apprenticeship system. A formal apprenticeship in floor covering is 6,000 hours of work experience and in-school training.
Responsibilities
Estimate materials, measure and mark guidelines on surfaces
Cut covering and foundation materials according to blueprints & sketches
Understand pattern layout
Safely use many tools, adhesives & fastening systems
Apply shock-absorbing, sound-proofing or decorative coverings to floors
Scrape, sand or chip to correct imperfections
Journeyperson Wage Rate:
$40.00/hr
